Mehmet
Sahin Altug, master craftsman of one of a kind furniture sculpture, was
born in the town of Mersin located on the Mediterranean Coast of Turkey.
Today Mehmet resides in Richmond, Virginia and owns and operates the
Bainbridge Art Center.
Mehmet combines his multiple talents as furniture maker, designer, and
colorist into one of a kind whimsical furniture sculptures.
Design
inspiration comes from the mystical influence of his Mediterranean
childhood. The curves and lines of his pieces reflect the Oriental and
Middle Eastern architecture of an ancient land .... the sensuousness of the
human form and the delicate crest of a wave as it approaches the shore.
Color is
Mehmet's most vivid mode of expression. The vibrant tones and rich
hues reflect a vivacity and whimsical quality of life. Color, texture,
line, and form make this furniture a sensory playground. It moves the
viewer to not just look .... but to touch, open, and travel around, through,
and within the fantasy of each piece.
Mehmet S.
Altug's unique sculptural creations are rapidly becoming the focal point of
shows and galleries throughout the United States.
